Titanium Diboride (TiB2)

Titanium Boride (TiB2) is gray or ash black material of crystal structure hexagonal AlB2.  Titanium diboride is used for wear protection in industries like ceramic, manufacturing, plant engineering, chemical processing and construction.

Types of Titanium Boride

  • In combination with other primarily oxide ceramics, TiB2 is used to constitute composite materials in which the presence of the material serves to increase strength and fracture toughness of the matrix.

Key Properties

  • Hardness
  • High electrical conductivity
  • Thermal stability and
  • Inertness to nonferrous metal melts.

Applications

The most common applications of titanium boride are the following:

  • Industrial 3DP including automotive, aerospace and defense, healthcare, consumer electronics, industrial, power and energy, and others
  • Seals, wear parts and in composites with other materials and cutting tools.

Aluminum Smelting:

  • In items such as cathodes in Hall-Heroult cells for primary aluminum smelting.
  • Other Applications:  seals, wear parts and in composites with other materials and cutting tools.
  • In combination with other primarily oxide ceramics, TiB2 is used to constitute composite materials in which the presence of the material serves to increase strength and fracture toughness of the matrix.
  • Industrial 3DP including automotive, aerospace and defense, healthcare, consumer electronics, industrial, power and energy, and others
